Eliza Mae has inspired us with her story. She was diagnosed of Major Anxiety that lead her to being a candle-maker, she’s now to stop medication. We sat down with Eliza Mae to get her insights and hear her inspiring story.
Tell us more about you…
I live and breath Dubai but not the lifestyle. A plant mum of 40+ plants and growing. In love with nature not things, mornings, yoga and self-love!
What sparked the idea to start a candle business?
I was diagnosed of Major Anxiety and Depressive Disorder that lead me to being the plant mum and candle-maker I am now to stop medication. I hate Zolofts!
What makes your brand standout from the rest?
Income is just a bonus but awareness and acceptance [of having the gift of being different (mental illness)] is the goal!
How did you come up with the name for your business?
candle;s – I am an aspiring minimalist who loves vintage, rustic and boho things incorporated it with my message to everyone that I am a mental illness survivor and still is surviving slowly and magically through natural healing and with that comes the symbol ‘;’ in between candle and S
What have you learned about toxicity and candles over the years?
I just love nature so much that I’d rather curate things that are friendly to us and the earth itself.
What are your two favorite candle making products/tools?
Sceeeeents and Jars
How long did it take for you to master your candle making process?
I’m still mastering it everyday. I can’t say I’m now an expert.
Knowing what you know now, is there anything you would have done differently when you were first starting out?
Nothing. I wouldn’t be here without those failures and mistakes.
Do you have any other advice or tips for beginner or aspiring candle makers?
Do it with heart. Not for money. Money will follow if you put passion in it.
What do you love the most about running your own candle business?
The people! The people who supports it and have been with me all through out. Shoutout to my hubby!
